Incorporated in 1948 as the Long Beach Jewish Community Council, Jewish Long Beach is proud of our long history of ensuring that Jewish life thrives and advances in our local community and throughout the world. By building bridges across Long Beach, West Orange County, Israel, and beyond, we work to a secure a Jewish future from generation to generation.

Jewish Long Beach is the result of the 2019 merger between the Jewish Federation and Jewish Community Foundation of Greater Long Beach and West Orange County. A member of the Jewish Federations of North America, we are a dynamic, independent 501c3 that serves our mission in several distinct ways. These include grant-making programs, cultivation of Jewish leaders through our Alpert New Leaders Forum and Lentzner Fellows, advocacy for Israel and Jewish peoplehood, stewardship of nearly $30 million in philanthropic funds entrusted to us by the community, and so much more. We also own and operate the Harry and Jeanette Weinberg Jewish Long Beach Campus, a gathering space for friends and neighbors of all backgrounds and religious streams.

Jewish Long Beach can trace our roots to the 1929 creation of Jewish Welfare Funds that materialized across the country, largely in support of Jewish refugees fleeing persecution in Europe. The outflow of Jewish refugees reached its crescendo just after World War II, as the fledgling state of Israel welcomed Holocaust survivors and other Jews whose lives had been endangered by anti-Semitism.

Since then, thanks to the tremendous generosity and leadership of families such as the Alperts, Newburghs, Litwins, Schulmans, Komaroffs, Sommers, Baldwins, Stuhlbargs, Lentzners, Berros, Breslauers, Lipeleses, and so many more, Jewish Long Beach has evolved into a leading community resource. Our patrons enable us to support social services, Jewish education, education against anti-Semitism, cultural and economic ties between the Long Beach area and Israel, and the Jewish community's relationship with the broader communities of which we are a part.

Jewish Long Beach is proud to work with our partner agencies—the Alpert Jewish Community Center, Hebrew Academy Orange County, Long Beach Hillel, and Jewish Family and Children's Service of Greater Long Beach and West Orange County—as well as with congregations of every denomination and other Jewishly-focused organizations of every stripe. We are united in our goal to ensure that Jewish life not only endures, but thrives in our community, l'dor v'dor, for generations to come.
